LP’s ‘Intro to Photo Etching’ is a single-day introductory course that will impart the steps involved in reproducing their own photographs (or drawings/computer generated images) as handmade, individually coloured prints.
No previous printmaking experience is necessary.
The desired photo is exposed onto a light sensitive plate which, after developing is then ready to print from.
This plate can then be inked up in a variety of ways using a range of colours to produce a range of imagery using one plate. Correct inking up and wiping of the plate, registration, paper types, and trouble-shooting while printing will be addressed on the course alongside the exposure process itself.
The benefits of this exciting method are that the image on the plate remains photo realistic with high levels of detail while also giving course participants the opportunity to reproduce their image in a number of different ways/ colour schemes. This can provide an entirely new way of looking at or working with existing photographs or imagery. This technique can enrich the work of artists, printmakers, film students, photographers & anyone with an interest in experimentation, particularly in photography.
LP’s one day ‘Intro to Photo Etching’ could also appeal to those interested in presenting existing family or historical photographs in a new & creative way.
Please note that in order to maximise the learning opportunities within this one-day course, all plates supplied/ created will be A4 or smaller.
Use of all tools and materials are included in the course fee and we encourage participants to bring any collages/ sketches/ ideas that they may like to work from.
LP will provide all course participants with its COVID policy in advance of the course.
