Neal’s course will focus on developing skills in oil painting and charcoal drawing.

With Neal, we will look at the properties and potential of the oil paint, learn about mixing colour through use of a limited palette, study how various tools, implements and brushes can create innovative and lively methods of paint application. There will be an emphasis on controlled experimentation with the materials in order to gain confidence with the medium. Developing confidence and familiarity, we can investigate the space, explore texture, tone and depth.

Charcoal drawing is a good technique to learn. Through it we will learn about the composition of the subject.

Daily, we will venture out to paint in the landscape. This invaluable preliminary gathering of information is useful and will be brought into play when developing an oil painting.

* The course takes place in Artform modern light-filled seaside studio with 24hr access for each visiting artist, and runs from 11am to 5pm on the first day and from 10am to 4pm on the subsequent days.
