Mad-Book Bookbinding Course

Come join us for a fun and creative bookbinding course at Vault Artist Studios & Gallery – Marlborough House! Learn the art of creating your own unique books from scratch. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned bookbinder, this course is perfect for anyone looking to unleash their creativity. Get hands-on experience and expert guidance in a relaxed and inspiring setting. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to dive into the world of bookbinding!

  • What will we cover?

In this introduction to bookbinding, you will learn the fundamentals of the bookbinding process, about various materials, equipment, and techniques used in the craft. We will fold, cut, and sew paper to create a back-2-back book with stiff covers that feature cloth and decorative paper sides. You will explore the techniques of back-to-back binding, experimenting with snake binding. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to discuss suppliers, tools, and books, as well as explore further courses, processes, and skills related to bookbinding.

  • What will I achieve?

By the end of this course, you should be able to…

  • Identify grain direction in paper
  • Safely and correctly use basic bookbinding tools and materials
  • Make a back-2-back hard cover binding using pamphlet stitch techniques and folds.
  • Make a book of your own, being playful with design techniques
