Workshop | Modelling the Head in Clay – James Horan, Artform

Working from live model, participants will learn to create a likeness of the human head. Learning the about the positions, proportions and relationships between each part of the head/face. Building on a wooden armature on the first day participants will create the rough size/shape of the head, on the second day each element will be refined and, working from observation, a likeness will be attempted.
Clay life/head modelling is a central part of sculptural practice, as life drawing is for a figurative painter. It is the best way for any artist to gain an understanding the shapes and subtleties of the human.
*The course takes place in Artform modern ligh-filled seaside studio with 24hr access for each visiting artist. Cost does not include accommodation, on request Artform offers artist accommodation options. Details on art materials and safety will be provided after signing up to the course.
