Description

Join Kasper for a fun and creative day of painting at the United Arts Club in Dublin!

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how to create an atmospheric urban nocturne in watercolour.

Nocturnes in watercolour can be intimidating but with the right plan of action it can be a really fun and rewarding subject to paint.

The day will be structured around a three-part demonstration. After each stage, Kasper will guide and assist students individually as they apply the techniques to their own paintings.

Throughout the workshop, we will learn the importance of:

• Using strong contrasting values to achieve a sense of glowing light

• Having enough thick mixtures ready before we start painting

• Exaggerate the coolness in the shadows and the warmth of the light

• Lifting paint and soften edges to create distant light sources.

All of this — and more — will be delivered through live demonstrations and personalised feedback.

Art materials will be provided, but students are also welcome to bring their own favourites if they prefer.

Please note: This workshop is not suitable for absolute beginners.

About the teacher: Kasper Zier is an award winning watercolour artist living and working in Dublin. His watercolours are a mesmerising blend of realism and poetry, elevating the mundane into a dreamy quality. Using a masterful combination of clear colours, free expressive brushstrokes, and ‘lost and found’ edges, Kasper artfully captures the interplay of light on the city’s buildings and streets. The end result is a unique painting full of atmosphere and character, carrying his personal touch and creating a lasting impression on the viewer. Kasper is a member of the The Water Colour Society of Ireland
