Workshop | Photopolymer Intaglio with Elke Thönnes at Graphic Studio Dublin
Tutor: Elke Thönnes
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Participants in this Photopolymer Intaglio Workshop will learn how to use photopolymer plates to create prints.
Your source images can be photographs, digital images, or drawings, which we will print out in the studio to create transparencies. These will be used on photosensitive plates that will be exposed using UV light, thereby creating printable plates.
This is a fast and reliable way to create an image, and you will be able to produce a small edition of prints on the weekend.
The course will guide you through the whole printmaking process, from plate making to inking up, wiping, and finally running a print through the press.
What is a photopolymer plate?
A photopolymer plate is a steel-backed sheet coated with polymer on one side that is light sensitive. The digitally created design is transferred to a photo negative that is placed on top of the sheet of polymer. It is then exposed to light in a controlled exposing unit.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is suitable for both beginners and advanced students who are interested in learning printmaking using photopolymer plates.
REQUIREMENTS AND MATERIALS
Students will be provided with two A5-sized photopolymer plates. You will need to bring your own images to work from, whether they are drawings, collages, photocopies, or photographs – anything that inspires you. Additionally, please bring an apron to protect your clothes from any messes or spills while you’re working.
Health and safety information will be given at the start of the course, and you will be asked to sign a form declaring that you agree to follow health and safety procedures as advised.
