In this day long workshop, we will take a simple approach to using oil paint, ‘alla prima’.
We will look examples from artists like Morandi and Bonnard, among others, and discuss how to assemble for an interesting composition.
After setting up our still lives, we will use framing devices to find our preferred view point. We will begin by making quick sketches to see relationships between space and form, how light affects colour and how contrasts structure the composition. Finally, using a simple palette, we will paint our still life, with which we will have built up a visual and spatial relationship.
This class is open to all artistic skill levels.
Materials provided. Lunch is included at 1-2pm.
Class size limited to 12 people.
