ABOUT THE CLASS

Colour and Calligraphy; enjoy the curiosity of colour while exploring the ancient scripts using dip pens and inks.

This course offers a hands-on exploration into the art of calligraphy, guiding participants through both traditional and creative techniques. Students will begin by mastering the use of dip pens and brushes, developing precision with Uncial and Italic scripts, and gaining control over strokes and letter formation. They will then explore the process of making custom inks using gouache paint and experiment with various paper types while learning foundational color theory.

Participants will practice writing quotations and meaningful words, with emphasis on understanding space, proportion, and layout for visually appealing compositions. The course will also introduce the chisel-edged brush for bold, expressive lettering styles.

In the final stages, students will apply their knowledge to craft a personalized calligraphic artwork. They will design and complete an individual piece based on a quotation or phrase that holds personal significance, resulting in a unique, expressive work that reflects their journey through calligraphy.
