This two-day masterclass with impart a greater understanding of traditional oil painting materials, techniques and the rationales around processes with a bit of historical perspectives around the figure thrown in.
Day one will focus on the underpainting and on learning to lay down a composition using a monochromatic ground and paint to move line, shape and volume.
Day two will demonstrate the first steps in laying down colour over the underpainting with an exploration of palettes, mediums and techniques like scumbling and glazing. Vanessa will also demonstrate how to finish off an oil painting traditionally with techniques such as oiling in and laying on a final varnish.
