Description

Workshops are often framed as tools for teaching—but what if we treated them as artworks? As spaces for risk, experimentation, collaboration, and care?

This day-long laboratory facilitated by artist and educator Scott Gorham will explore the workshop as an artistic medium, and help you discover how to use the workshop format to expand your practice. Together we will pull apart the idea of a workshop, and rebuild it into something more exploratory, open-ended, and alive.

Come with an idea for a workshop. You will have the opportunity to present a 10 minute excerpt of your idea to the group for feedback, with the shared goal of developing strong offerings that are part of our individual artistic practices. This is a space to play with the form itself. No perfection required(!) just curiosity, generosity, and the desire to think together.

The cohort will also contribute to a shared resource, The Artist’s Field Guide to Artist Workshops, a working document built from our collective knowledge, questions, and strategies.
