Art and the Environment Course with Aoife Desmond at The Guesthouse Project, Cork

Practices for living in a damaged world, this short course is designed as a follow on to the 8 week introductory course and is suitable for new or continuing students. Combining art history and philosophy to create a visual and intellectual map of current and historic practices which engage with ideas and material of environment. A discursive and dynamic lecture series with space for engagement.

ART + ACTIVISM / A charting of environmental activism and artistic practices that engage with or are informed by activism.

ARCHITECTURE + SUSTAINABILITY / An exploration of contemporary and historic examples of architecture which are informed by and/or work with nature.

BODY + PERFORMANCE / A presentation and discussion of performance and embodied practices that use landscape as material and site.

ARTISTS FILM / A selection of artists films and filmmaking approaches which directly link to landscape and ecological thinking.

Aoife Desmond is an interdisciplinary artist who works with film, performance and other media. She also writes, lectures, curates and works collaboratively.
