On the final day of ALONG THE WESTERN SHORE/I GCLADACH AN IARTHAIR, Denis will talk about his public art practice with reference to his U.K based business “Sculpture Works” referring briefly to some projects. Denis and his colleagues work to complete projects that take in elements of relational practice that most often conclude with the installation of permanent sculpture. Denis has also worked in the Republic of Ireland in this manner.
Studio work and past exhibitions will be discussed with particular attention to Defining a Line, a solo exhibition of Denis’ which he has marked as a pivotal point in his practice. This will bring us into Denis’ current exhibition here at the gallery and the many subjects it covers. These are ranging from the artists relationship to the Irish landscape and it’s deeper histories, displacement and folklore.
Working methods (materials and processes) will be topics that will run throughout the talk.
Open Q&A at the end of the talk.
Tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival.
