Artist Talk | Evelyn Broderick at A4 Sounds Gallery
Wednesday 1 March, 7.30pm to 8.30pm
Evelyn Broderick is an installation artist, she is currently a studio member at A4 Sounds in Dublin. Broderick uses socially engaged structures to shackle and bind drawing, printmaking and sculpture together. Her work is inherently political with social and economical overtones. She completed her BA in Fine Art Painting at Limerick School of Art and Design and a Hdip in Art and Design Teaching at Crawford College of Art and Design. Evelyn relocated to Liverpool to develop her practice. During her two years in North West England, Evelyn received an MA (First Class Hons) in Fine Art from Liverpool John Moores University, founded an artist and art education cooperative (Quad Collective CIC) and worked closely with Turner Prize 2015 winners, ASSEMBLE, at Granby Workshop, Toxteth. Evelyn also led workshops on behalf of Tate Liverpool (Liverpool, UK), Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool, UK) and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, Spain).
In her talk she will discuss the idea of ‘making’ a theme which features a lot in her recent work, how a maker space influence your making, the notion of making by hand, how this is a primal thing and good for the mind. She will also be talking about projects she has been involved with including The Mens Shed Association and Granby Park in Liverpool.
