Join Celine Sheridan as she discusses the dynamics, thematic concerns and the traditional stylistic techniques featured in the current exhibition Asymmetrical Warfare with exhibiting artist Conor Walton. Celine Sheridan is a visual artist whose practice focuses on painting, drawing, sculpture and book making as a medium. Celine has created many self published books which are held in public collections including NIVAL.
Asymmetrical Warfare showcases over thirty recent pieces by Walton, some new and previously unseen. The statement pieces on display have captured visitor’s attention with its biting social satire and representation of certain political figureheads. The phrase Asymmetrical Warfare has metaphorical relevance to the current political climate and the various forms of political insurgencies within Western democracies. The work in this show, accordingly, deals quite explicitly with cultural conflict and the crises of our time – be it political, ecological, cultural or moral.
The intent of the ‘Ask the Artist’ event is to foster a casual gallery environment whereby the audience can engage with the artist about their work and create an accessible route of understanding between artist and audience. From this open conversation, the audience will be provided with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Walton`s work,as we uncover the sources of inspiration Walton draws upon to create such distinguished art.
