CE Scheme Placement | Arts Worker at Cork Community Art Link

artlink-logo-corkCork Community Art Link is looking for a creative and imaginative individual to assist with the creation of props and constructions for outdoor street parades, performances and our public participatory art programme, and to assist with the development and implementation of arts programmes with a range of groups in a variety of community and social contexts. We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in community street spectacle and making innovative and original props, puppets and mobile constructions for outdoor parades and performances. The ideal candidate will have a broad creative and technical skillset and will be familiar with typical workshop tools and equipment with some arts related experience. Formal arts training is not necessary as long as you have a range of creative skills and can demonstrate them.

Note: this position is subject to Garda Clearance. Candidates must be eligible for a Community Employment scheme (normal criteria is that candidates be over the age of 25 and in receipt of a social welfare payment for minimum 12 months).

Duties will include but not be limited to:

• Assist with the creation and technical development of props/puppets/mobile constructions/costumes for outdoor street parades, performances and art installations.
• Assist with preparation, planning and facilitation of workshops with a range of community groups.
• Assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of workshop facilities.

Technical skills: ability to work with some of the following materials – metal, latex, wood, fabric; Ability to experiment with different materials and techniques; Ability to use a range of hand and power tools; Good communication skills; Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative; Previous group work or facilitation an advantage.
