The Charles Bargue Drawing Course – ‘Cours De Dessin’ is a drawing course originally used in the French art schools of the 1860s and 1870s. It has been recently popularised again by atelier style art schools springing up in Europe and north America. These schools started in response to the demand for training in more rigorous and academic drawing and painting skills than are currently on offer in conventional art schools and Bargue drawing has become a staple in these academies. Originally used by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, this course is once again being used to train artists in drawing and design principles that have truly stood the test of time.
Course participants will work from one lithograph over the 21/24 hours of the course broken down into simplified steps week-by-week. In copying the lithograph we will learn the fundamentals of drawing; good design, describing form, creating shadow & light, as well as developing pencil drawing technique, and most importantly training the eye to see.
