The Drawing Studio have opened Cast Collection for an un-tutored Chiarascuro Cast-Drawing Club. Cast Drawing has historically been an instrument in learning to observe, develop and refine taste; it is the natural progression of the artist when they have mastered drawing from ‘the flat’ (copying prints and drawings). Historically, a significant portion of artistic training was the copying from plaster casts of antiquity. This wasn’t confined to artists working in the classical tradition i.e. Reynolds and Ingres – but by modernists such as Cézanne, Matisse and Picasso.
The Plaster Cast Collection at The Drawing Studio is unique in Dublin. Curated by Director, Samuel Horler; the collection has many of the key historical pieces from the Western canon of Art.
Drawing boards, clips, paper and lighting will be provided. Members must supply their own eraser, and chalks / pencils. Small sketching packs can be purchased from the studio store for €4 (Putty eraser, 3 pencils, 5 sheets paper). This is purely a drawing club; oil and water based materials are prohibited.
