This workshop is an introduction to spoken word as part of performance/live art, focused on helping you to explore the possibilities of making work based around voice and gesture.
The workshop will begin with relaxation and warm up exercises followed by a series of group improvisations. Each participant will work on and present a piece of work devised throughout the day. Please bring a short piece of writing that has personal significance (around twelve lines). This can include a favourite poem, a passage from a novel, a personal letter, a diary excerpt etc. Please wear comfortable clothes.
The workshop will be facilitated by Ciarán O’Keeffe. Ciarán is an established performance artist whose practice incorporates traditions of alternative cabaret and performance art. He has presented work at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Royal Hibernian Academy, Temple Bar Gallery, Project Arts Centre, Mart Studios, Electric Picnic, Glitterhole, Spicebag and Pantibar. He was crowned Alternative Miss Ireland in 2009.
