Applicants should have a minimum of five years of curatorial experience in Germany and a clear vision of their own practice as curators. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a significant link between their own curatorial trajectory and the cultural discourse of the last decades in Germany and the United States. Located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Ludlow 38 has provided for curatorial experimentation in the tradition of the German “Kunstverein” since 2008. Its mission is to introduce new international perspectives to the local art community and to foster dialogue within the aesthetic and sociopolitical context of New York and the United States.

In addition to a one-page CV and cover letter, applicants should provide a 1000-word outline of two exhibition and/or project ideas that explore the potential of exhibition making at Ludlow 38 and which they envision implementing during a one-year residency at the space.

The position includes a stipend to cover living expenses and health insurance as well as a small remuneration for services provided at the gallery (4200 USD total per month). The Goethe-Institut will support the successful candidate’s application for a J1 exchange visa for the United States.

The final selection will be made by an international jury of three high-profile curators.
