This day-long workshop is about the processes of digital image file preparation and storage. The session will present best practice in relation to the use and storage of digital image files focusing specifically on these processes in Photoshop, iPhoto and Media Pro software packages. It will cover the when, why and how of digital image files looking at two distinct areas File Formatting and File Storage, as follows.
This session is designed to complement Tim’s other session Documenting your Work artists booking for both sessions receive additional discount.
Digital Image File Formatting will address: File Formats; Bit depth (8 or 16); Profiles – sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) and ProPhoto; when to covert and when to assign profiles; if and when you should create cmyk profiles and resizing images. The session will demonstrate how to prepare digital image files for a range of uses such as: Online (website, email, online submissions), presentations (digital projection) and for printing purposes (catalogues, books and prints).
Digital Image file Storage/Cataloguing will look at: file management; the hierarchical nature of computer file structures; file and folder naming; organising storage around date or theme; duplication of images for editing and adding metadata. e.g. copyright, artist, contact details, details of subject photographed.
Tim will also discuss the how and why of computer screen calibration. Please note that this session will be delivered through a presentation and demonstration of the processes to the group as a whole, as time is limited, 1-to-1 tuition will not be possible.
Tim Durham is a photographic artist working from his home in Westmeath. He is interested in architectural interiors having photographed the last month of the Irish Times in D’Olier Street in 2006, Shackleton Mills in Lucan in 2009 and Tara Mines for a show at the Solstice Arts Centre in 2009. He is also interested in architecture and landscape. He completed a percent for arts project for Kells Town Council based around the town of Kells and the island of Iona in their connection with St. Columkille and the Books of Kells. He is currently working on a percent for arts project for Westmeath County Council on the history of social housing in that county. His practice includes art documentation and photographic workshops. For the past 4 years he has been teaching artists how to photograph their own work. He holds an MFA in Photography from the University of Ulster, Belfast (2014) and has recently exhibited as part of the MFA Graduate Exhibition at the Gallery of Photography, Dublin.
