12 November, 12 noon
In association with National Digital Week (10 to 12 November 2016), the Ludgate Hub, Skibbereen and on the occasion of the exhibition at Uillinn – Et si on s’était trompé? / What If We Got It Wrong – a group exhibition of artists engaged in issues of climate change, West Cork Arts Centre presents a discussion platform on:
Digital Art and Education in the Anthropocene
The ‘Anthropocene’ has become a bit of a buzz word recently, or at least since it became officially nominated as the name for our particular geological age. It encompasses questions about the relationship between ecology and human futures, but also the extent to which technology and the digital have brought us to this point and will be instrumental in creating sustainable societies.
Four speakers, looking at three themes, Art and the Digital (digital artist, researcher and lecturer Dr. Conor McGarrigle); the Digital and the Economic (Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick, Dean of Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media), the Digital and Pedagogy (Dr. Glenn Loughran, Programme Chair of the BA Visual Art Degree Programme, Sherkin Island and Dr. John O’Connor, Dean of the College of Arts and Tourism, DIT presenting on access to education on Sherkin Island and in Second Life).
