€3 Million Announced For Community Participation in The Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme

artdeptToday a €3m funding package to support the extensive programme of local events planned for 2016 to mark the Centenary of the Easter Rising was announced.

Over 2,000 events and initiatives have already been confirmed for next year as part of the Local Authority led County Plans for Ireland 2016. The programmes contain events and initiatives ranging across all seven strands of the national programme, with a strong emphasis on arts and cultural events. This funding package will enable local communities to deliver on their ambitious programmes for next year. It will also help to ensure the maximum level of participation and engagement, across all sectors of the community, in this once-in-a-century moment in Ireland’s history.

The Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme is a year-long programme of activity to commemorate the events of the 1916 Rising, to reflect on our achievements over the last 100 years and to look towards Ireland’s future. The 31 local and community plans are a core element of the Community Participation strand of Ireland 2016, one of the seven programme strands alongside State Ceremonial, Historical Reflection, An Teanga Bheo – the Living Language, Youth and Imagination, Cultural Expression and Global and Diaspora. The programmes are the outcome of 84 public consultation meetings held all around the country during the Spring and early Summer.
