WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD OPEN DAY SATURDAY 25 JUNE: 3pm beginning at ASKEATON CIVIC TRUST
Askeaton Contemporary Arts are hosting the 14th edition of WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD, curated by MICHELE HORRIGAN, where artists live and work in County Limerick throughout June 2022. An accompanying public programme culminates with a special OPEN DAY on SATURDAY 25 JUNE featuring new artistic encounters and artworks throughout Askeaton. A reception at Askeaton Civic Trust will be followed by a guided tour of Askeaton, encountering and celebrating the work of 2022 resident artists, ADRIAN DUNCAN, CHLOE BRENNAN and LAURIE ROBINS, and the launch of NOLLAIG MOLLOY’S new publication A Confection of Photographs.

THROUGHOUT JUNE 24 hours a day SUPERVALU Originally commissioned in 2014, STEVE MAHER’S Sentences now reappears throughout the festival on Twohig Supervalu’s electric signage on Church Street. Placed at a busy petrol forecourt, quotes and poetry about life in Askeaton scroll across its screen intermingling with information about instore offers and social distancing. More public artworks by SEAN LYNCH and STEPHEN BRANDES can be seen in Askeaton’s East Square.
THROUGHOUT JUNE ONLINE at www.askeatonarts.com LOUISE MANIFOLD’S 2009 video Phantom dramatically revives accounts of spectral or phantom coaches, said to have haunted the old roads of Limerick.
THROUGHOUT JUNE ONLINE at www.askeatonarts.com RUTH CLINTON and NIAMH MORIARTY’S video Losing Track comprises a fanfiction account of American actor Kiefer Sutherland’s fateful visit to Askeaton in 1992.
THROUGHOUT JUNE ONLINE at www.askeatonarts.com In Imagine Being Here Now produced by MICHAEL HOLLY, join curator JO MELVIN in conversation with LUCY LIPPARD, American writer, art critic, activist and curator, and a provocative figure in the development of conceptual art throughout the world.
THROUGHOUT JUNE ASKEATON CASTLE TOURS 10am / 11.30am / 1.30pm / 3pm daily Following years of continuing restoration work, Askeaton’s mediaeval castle and fortress complex is now open. Encounter the colonial histories of the Desmond Rebellion, a Hellfire Club and mediaeval banqueting hall. Maximum six persons per tour.
