Gallery Weekend Beijing (GWBJ), the leading platform to discover contemporary art from Mainland China and beyond, returns with 39 preeminent exhibitors for its 6th edition that will celebrate the collaborative and creative spirit of Beijing’s flourishing art scene. Led by Director Amber Yifei Wang, this edition will celebrate the thriving modern day art scene across Beijing, positioning exhibitions at its core, combining cutting-edge contemporary visual art, performances, talks with an expanded programme in physical and virtual formats. Considering art’s role in sharing and building a sustainable art ecosystem in an urban context, the GWBJ Academic Committee has chosen ‘Sharing’ as the overarching theme of the 6th edition, for which it will also host the Main Sector Special Exhibition at the 798 Art Center in addition to the curated programmes under each sector. Further information on all sectors and the special exhibition will be announced in due course.
“Taking cues from recent developments in the global art scene, there is a growing need for communities to come together and champion the creative endeavours of contemporary art through tightly curated programmes, collaboration, intimate meets-and-greets and educational initiatives. Our close collaboration with various art organisations has culminated in the Main Sector Special Exhibition and a record number of participants at this year’s Gallery Weekend Beijing. I am very proud of the exhibitors for showcasing artists who are continuing to experiment and find new ways to reflect on the contemporary moment, which reinforces Gallery Weekend Beijing as a platform that fosters the discovery of contemporary art,” says Amber Yifei Wang, Director of Gallery Weekend Beijing.
