For November’s Artist Breakfast Club, we will be screening a live conversation between Dr. Richard Davey and artist Andy Parsons on Zoom.  Over the course of a year, Richard and Andy had a series of wide ranging conversations about the work for the exhibition ‘Patience’ and the development of a unique multimedia website that compliments the exhibition. The talk will be followed by a Q&A with the artist.
In 2019 The Model commissioned Parsons to be The Model’s inaugural Artist in Residence at Sligo University Hospital, where he engaged staff, patients and families in creative activities and conversations. He particularly focused on working in the Renal Ward where patients undergoing dialysis were enabled to explore creativity through experiments in painting and drawing. Alongside this work, the artist developed a body of drawings, paintings and sculptures that trace the many stories at the heart of hospital life. The residency was supported by The Model, Creative Ireland, Sligo, and the Arts Council.
Dr Richard Davey is a Senior Research Fellow in Historical and Critical Studies in the School of Art and Design, Nottingham Trent University. He has written numerous catalogue essays including a substantial essay for the Royal Academy of Art’s Anselm Kiefer exhibition and the Summer Exhibition in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He has also written books on Tess Jaray RA, Anthony Whishaw RA and John Newling. In 2016 he was a juror for the John Moores Painting Prize. His current book projects include Ed Moses, Stephen Chambers RA, Chris Orr RA and Leonard McComb RA.
