Basic Space is delighted to present Ciarán O’ Keeffe for our August BASIC TALK – Friday at 1pm at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin 1.

A man turns off the lights in his kitchen. There, in darkness, to his heart’s content, he dances on his own.

Ciarán O’Keeffe’s arts practice focuses on live performance/spoken word. His work, exploring the self, combines ideas and methodologies from his studies in acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York), with those of his visual arts studies at IADT (BA Art) and NCAD (MA MFA).

His most recent work explores the space of grief resulting from the loss of love and the ensuing loneliness and chaos that shifts one’s understanding of a life well lived.

His performance work, Dance Alone, was chosen as part of the most recent Pallas Studios’ Periodical Review 11. He has also presented work at IMMA; Temple Bar Galleries; Project Arts Centre; RHA; MART; Rua Red Gallery; Livestock; Electric Picnic; Pantibar; Jigsaw and the Dublin Fringe, Carlow Arts, Galway Fringe, Sligo Arts and Dublin Pride Festivals.

In 2009, as Smilin’ Kanker, Ciarán won the Alternative Miss Ireland title.
