Artist Talk by our 2021 Photographic Artist in Residence Alex Keogh about her project ‘Cumhacht an Chaisleáin’ (Power of the Castle).
Alex Keogh’s solo show ‘Cumhacht an Chaisleáin’ (Power of the Castle) opened at The Darkroom on December 1st and will run until December 13th.
Originally scheduled for December 7th, Alex Keogh’s Artist Talk has been postponed due to Storm Barra and will now take place on Monday December 13th at 6.30pm.
‘Cumhacht an Chaisleáin came into being during the time of COVID. The silence that became a norm forced me to notice my surroundings and explore the area I grew up for the first time as an adult. One particular place that drew me in was the remnants of a castle I had never noticed before. Curiosity drew me in, and when I explored the place I felt a an important connection. In a time of isolation, I was able to find something equally isolated from the normal hustle and bustle of daily life. The Castle became a bridge to an other-worldly place of calm that I could connect to. In this abandoned space, imagined figures came to mind. The history of the space could be felt and realised in the ruins and its lost narrative came to life once again through my work.’ – Alex Keogh
In the talk Keogh will discuss her new body of work ‘Cumhacht an Chaisleáin’ developed during her time as Photographic Artist in Residence at The Darkroom as well as her inspirations and residence experience.
