Laois based artist Pat Byrne will give a talk on his practice to date at Tallaght Library to coincide with his solo exhibition on show at the venue – ‘From Under the Hill’. He will discuss what has motivated his work and how he got started working on the subject of folklore and superstition in his oil paintings. He will also chat about where his work was, its references to art history and why chiaroscuro played such an important role in previous works, where it is now and why the characters of Irish folklore that feature in his work are portrayed the way they are, the raw canvas serving as the background and potential directions for the work to do in further down the line. This exhibition and talk is brought to you by Soul Noir: Festival of the Dark Arts and is designed to be accessible for people who are visually impaired.
