First Cut! Youth Film Festival 2022 presents an in-depth conversation with multi-award-winning experimental filmmaker Yvonne McDevitt. Yvonne McDevitt is an Irish artist and filmmaker working primarily in non-fiction and experimental cinema with an interest in human history, interdisciplinary filmmaking and new technologies. She was recently named Film Artist-in-Residence at University College Cork, as well as being a recipient of the Arts Council’s Authored Film Work Award in 2022, a unique initiative that enables film artists to make an authored cultural film work with a substantial production budget of €185,000. As part of First Cut! Youth FIlm Festival 2022 (FCYFF), Yvonne will discuss her films and her working methods in an Insightful Conversation with experimental filmmaker, and First Cut! programmer Maximilian Le Cain, on Saturday 12 March, 1.30pm at the Regal Cinema, Youghal. Through the presence of special guest Yvonne McDevitt, FCYFF 2022 turns a spotlight on experimental filmmaking for the first time. There are many ways to make films, many ways to tell stories and many creative paths in filmmaking. The films submitted to the festival every year show that young filmmakers explore and embrace them all. FCYFF is thrilled to now be focusing on this exciting approach to film. Following the conversation on Saturday, there is a screening of FCYFF’s Spotlight programme celebrating the vision of emerging filmmakers of third level age. The screening takes place at 2:30pm also at the Regal Cinema, Youghal. Free Event, Please email firstcutfestinfo@gmail.com to reserve your place. Image: Myrrh directed by Yvonne McDevitt Map
