Birthmarks presents a series of new work by artist Siobhan O’Callaghan. The artist’s first solo exhibition brings together a body of paintings relating to intimacy, memory and absence. Stemming from an interest in representation and body politics, O’Callaghan’s figurative paintings are absorbed in the world around her. The artist delves into an exploration of gender roles, identity, and perception through her paintings of daily life and orchestrated scenes.
O’Callaghan (b. 1992) graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2015 with a First Class Honours Joint Degree in Fine Art and Art History, and a High Commendation. Since graduating from college, the artist’s work has featured in a number of exhibitions including Boyle Arts Festival, Pallas Project’s 20 Year Anniversary Benefit Auction and the Royal Hibernian Academy 88th Annual Exhibition and the upcoming Rua Red Winter Open. She remains committed to developing her artistic practice and will commence further training in the figurative realist tradition in Florence in 2019.
