As studio spaces re-open to artists, and visitors return to galleries and shops, Black Church Print Studio is delighted to present Black Church Editions at The Library Project in Temple Bar. Showcasing the work of established Irish print artists – all members of Black Church Print Studio – this exhibition not only delivers an opportunity to immerse yourself in new work, but to purchase a print for your home.

Over the past 18 months we’ve all become far too accustomed to every inch of our homes, and original prints are a great and affordable way to change the feeling in any room. Running throughout August, the exhibition includes a wide selection of Black Church Studio Artists’ work as they return to making art in their Temple Bar workshop just upstairs. Featuring over 100 works in a great range of styles from abstract to more representational work, and including etchings, lithography, relief, screen and digital limited edition prints, there is sure to be something that resonates with every visitor. Limited editions are available of many of the prints.

As a nice added bonus, a purchase from this exhibition will not only support the work of established Irish artists, but will also contribute to a fund for the Black Church Graduate programme. This programme supports new emerging talent to enter the Studio from third level education. So either directly or indirectly, all proceeds from print sales in this exhibition will be channelled back to artists.

Black Church Print Studio has 85 professional artists and supports a graduate programme of three new graduates each year. These graduates are selected from IADT, TU Dublin and NCAD graduate final degree work. The Studio awards a number of opportunities to get these artists established in their professional career paths including access to facilities, expertise, materials budgets, professional development training, technical support and more.

Established in 1981, the Studio has three floors of workshop space above The Library Project. The first floor covers Lithography, Relief Printing (Lino and Woodcut), the second floor Intaglio (Copper and Aluminium Etching, Aquatint, Mezzotint, Drypoint) and the third floor Screen printing.

Black Church Editions is illustrative of the rich and varied practices of printmaking that Black Church Print Studio artists pursue. Forced to close for most of the Covid period, this new exhibition is an important outlet for studio members to share their work and re-engage with the public after the studio’s hiatus.

This exhibition is hosted and supported by The Library Project. Works are available to purchase through The Library Project premises and online via their website: https://www.thelibraryproject.ie/collections/black-church-print-studio Individual artists will receive the majority of any sale of their work, and the gallery commission will be directed to the Graduate Programme.
