DESCRIPTION:Black Gives Way to Blue is an exhibition of new work by Cork-ba
 sed painter Ava Hayes. Working on large scale canvas\, Hayes produces abst
 ract\, performative paintings which arise from an exploration of intense b
 odily feeling\; the physical tension that arises when language and verbal 
 expression fails. Her painting strategies play with the intimacy of memory
  and soundscapes to create a bodily charge that transfers onto the canvas.
  As this builds\, she utilises this anxious energy\, creating fervent mark
 s that leave traces of this happening in their wake. Hayes is interested i
 n the moment when internalised experience breaks to the surface.
