Building Bridges showcases exhibits that foster a greater understanding of Chinese and Irish culture, and the connections between both countries. Both artists are endeavouring to create metaphorical bridges between these two ancient nations through their creativity and subject matter. Nelius has concentrated on Chinese themed coloured drawings for the exhibition, while Jie creates original Irish themed patchwork pieces. Thus, uniquely, what we see in Building Bridges is an Irish person producing Chinese images and a Chinese person using their creative ability to make craftwork with Irish subjects. Both artists have learned more about each other’s culture, history and stories, while producing a colourful and dynamic display for the public. The assembled exhibition reveals the enthusiasm with which both Jie and Nelius have approached this interesting project. They hope that Building Bridges stimulates communication and brings people together. It is only through contact that we all overcome cultural, linguistic, and other barriers. Building Bridges opens to the public on Saturday, 29 January from 2:00pm – 6:00pm. Tickets for the opening are available for free through Eventbrite. Studio 7’s opening hours for the remainder of the run will be 11:30am – 5:00pm daily. Map
