Join Voluntary Arts and Maureen Kennelly, Director of The Arts Council, for this discussion on supporting grassroots culture and the recent report published by Voluntary Arts, Common Ground: Rewilding the Garden.
The programme of work that led to the publication of Common Ground investigated how creative activity is supported in areas of socio-economic deprivation across the UK and Republic of Ireland. The report shows this activity to be thriving in many areas that are regularly overlooked by the cultural sector, but this grassroots activity is in need of significant support and recognition. The report identifies three key requisites to support this activity, and three main benefits. This leads to the Common Ground Pact, which sets out three pledges for cultural organisations and policy makers to commit to in order to better support these activities in the future.
#CreativeNetwork is a series of open discussion events which Voluntary Arts began hosting on 17 March 2020 as national lockdowns began to confine people to their homes. These free events take place regularly on Zoom, with a range of different themes now being explored on a regular basis. Special guests provide provocations and stimulation but the focus is very much on an inclusive conversation and a spirit of respect and collaboration. No advance registration is required, simply click the ‘Join’ link next to the relevant session on the Voluntary Arts website.
