Signal Arts Centre is delighted to present Dust on the Razor by Zane Sutra, a selection of new paintings that originate from collaboration with Irish video artists and fashion photographers. Although painterly, her work is carried out in academic manner, the loose and fast brushstrokes suggest about the intensity, dynamic and virtuosic energy her work is charged with. Sutra’s monochromatic pallet deals with ground rules of light and dark. Beautiful women on disturbingly black or dripping backgrounds are the artist’s latest self-odysseys. They are par memoir/part fiction. Her stories carry an intriguing evidence of mystery, proposing to the viewer the idea of passing through. Everything to everything is the play, which fuels her work. By blurring the boundaries between the current and the eternal, Sutra erases the tension between the human and the divine. Artist Zane Sutra has lived and works in Co. Wexford for twenty years. She is a member of Visual Arts Ireland and this is her fifth solo show. She is the last year’s finalist of the Hennessy Portrait Prize. Her work has been shortlisted for the RUA Annual Show and, amongst others, displayed in The National Gallery of Ireland, The Doorway Gallery, The SolArt Gallery, Signal Arts Centre, Ranelagh Arts Centre, The InSpire Gallery, The Artrooms Art Fair in London, The Armory Art show New York (as part of ARTBOX.PROJECT Switzerland exposition), The Global Center for Latvian Art; as well as in private collections in USA, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Russia, Latvia and Ireland.
