On Thursday 4th of August 2022, the EMERGE Exhibition and Awards 2022 launches at the MTU Gallery No.46 Grand Parade, Cork. Established in 2016 the EMERGE Exhibition & Awards by Cork Craft & Design is a platform of support for graduate makers and one of the core events of the annual August Cork Craft Month, now in its 13th year. For the year 2022, Cork Craft & Design once again reunite with their partners Benchspace, Friends of the Crawford and the MTU Arts Office in order to support and nurture emerging graduates from the five art colleges in Cork city and county.
EMERGE 2022 hosts the work of 15 emerging makers. The aim is to not only display their work but to embrace these creatives as part of the vibrant Irish craft and design community. The makers of the show itself hail from the Crawford College of Art & Design (Applied Arts), Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa (Furniture Design), St. John’s Central College (Jewellery Making), West Cork Campus Skibbereen subsidiary of the Cork College of Commerce, and Kinsale College. The work produced by these talented emerging designers marks the beginning of an exciting career in craft and design.
Ava Hayes, the curator of the exhibition commented, “After two years of closed doors and online exhibitions EMERGE 2022 is a celebration of craft and community. The show itself is an ode to Ireland’s long history of craftspeople and a celebration of its innovative designers coming through”.
This exhibition will include works in a wide variety of media and techniques: woodwork, clay, ceramics, sculpture and more. Launching on the 4th of August 2022 at MTU’s Gallery No.46, Grand Parade at 6.30p.m, it is an event not to be missed.
