Shambles at the Atrium, Athlone Civic Centre.
Three artists from the Shambles Art Studios, Lesley Wingfield, Ann McGuinness and Catherine Rock, are showing a selection of their work in the Atrium at Athlone Civic Centre from Thursday, 12 December, 2019, under the title “Eve’s Ale”. The exhibition is the latest in a programme of exhibitions offered by Westmeath County Council to bring the work of artists based locally to the public.
The works on display reflect the diverse interests of the three artists but, as the title suggests, are linked by reference to water. Lesley’s portraiture shines through the medium of water, Catherine’s abstract work displays colour in reflective form; Ann’s landscapes are inspired by the wetlands of the region.
The artists are part of a group of six artists who occupy the Shambles studios and have been exhibiting individually and collectively for about six years. The Shambles Art Studios are based in Excise St., Athlone and are a familiar landmark to visitors annually on Culture Night when the artists exhibit with visiting artists and open their studios to the public.
As part of their continuing programme, Shambles Art Studios are having their Christmas Exhibition on Friday 13th December, from 5pm to 8pm, in Excise St. Athlone. The exhibition will include the work of six invited artists alongside the work of the Shambles artists.
