Flow and Folds
Strule Arts Centre
2 – 25 April 2020
Working primarily with limestone, Des Cullen makes sculptures that emerge directly from his involvement with the properties of the material, creating sculpture as an expression of how material forms, affect and inform our ideas and emotions.
Des works consistently over time from his studio at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton to create forms using a variety of techniques both manual and mechanical. Des’s approach to making art is conceptual and intuitive. Des is inspired by contemplation, nature & philosophy – both Western and European traditions, although these influences may provide a starting point for his work, his hope is that these sculptural art forms may suggest quite different things to different people.
Des Cullen’s exhibition Flow & Folds launches at Strule Arts Centre Gallery on Thursday 2 April 2020 at 7pm.
