‘Fools and Dreamers’ x Fergal Styles
Hang Tough Contemporary is delighted to announce ʻFools and Dreamersʼ, a stunning new body of work from Fergal Styles.
Fools and Dreamers is an imaginistʼs dialogue. Through a wide variety of media, the artist explores their own weird logic, naivety, cliché, sincerity, their own fear of looking stupid, as well as transient specific interests in the world around them. Fools and Dreamer eschews precision in favour of a kind of wonky mannerism, where the artistʼs indexical use of colour can take centre stage.
Fergal Styles (b. 1992) is an artist living and working in Dublin, Ireland. He uses a wide variety of media to create interior images that move between low realism and high abstraction.
Fergal graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin (2016) and in 2018 completed a fellowship at Wendyʼs Subway Brooklyn, NYC. In 2020, Wendyʼs Subway published Golliard/Methexis, a publication by himself and artist Cillian Finnerty. Fergal has received funding awards from public bodies such as the Arts Council of Ireland and DLR Arts. His work has been included in recent exhibitions such as ʻ11/11ʼ at HangTough Contemporary, Dublin and ʻIn A New Lightʼ at ArtCityWorks London. His work is held in both public and private collections.
ʻFools and Dreamersʼ x Fergal Styles will be hosted in Hang Tough Contemporary, Exchequer Street. Drinks are kindly provided by Teelings Whiskey.
