The Darkroom is proud to present the first solo photography exhibition by Irish filmmaker Bob Gallagher. Bob’s show will bring together work produced during his time as an Emerging Artist in Residence at the Darkroom. The exhibition will open on Thursday March 22nd, with a reception for the artist from 6pm – 9pm. The show will be on view until Sunday March 31st. Mon to Sat from 12pm- 6pm and Sundays 12pm – 4pm.
Bob has come into the residency as a filmmaker interested in experimenting with analogue photographic process. Much of his work to date has been as a music video director and series of portraits which draws on his relationships with musicians. He presents portraits of musicians that are inspired by pieces of their work. These works showcase the visual flare and conceptual approach seen in Bob’s music video work, but combine these qualities with an exciting analogue 3D stills photographic process.
The series playfully explores the relationship between performer and audience, while also complimenting the work of each artist, with excerpts from songs by each musician being exhibited alongside the images. The variety of acts included demonstrates Bob’s capacity to work across multiple genres, collaborating with some of Ireland’s most exciting acts in a way that manages to remain true to the spirit of each artist, but filtered through Bob’s own particular perspective and aesthetic. These include Wastefellow, Loah, TPM, Naoise Roo, Villagers, The Claque and Junior Brother.
The show will be an opportunity to see Bob’s collection of inventive moving-image 3D portraits, as well as a series of unique black and white prints. It will also offer an insight into his experimental analogue process, as well as his audio visual approach to presenting photography as moving image.
The Darkroom is a nonprofit organization which mission is to support and encourage risk-taking emerging photographers and artists as well as introduce a new audience to the medium, keeping analogue photography firmly on Dublin and Ireland’s creative and cultural map.
Exhibition opens on March 22nd and runs until March 31st, 2019, with an Artist Talk on 27th from 6:30pm – 9pm. Artist website: www.bobfilmsthings.com IG: @bobfilmsthings TW: @bobfilmsthings
