DESCRIPTION:A Walk &amp\; Talk Tour with the Artist\, facilitated by Gillia
 n Lattimore of Irish Seed Savers will take place on Sat 12 Jul at 10am. Al
 l welcome.\n\nHeirloom is an installation of works created by artist Rache
 l Doolin. The project stems from a culmination of experiential research un
 dertaken during an Arctic-based residency programme\, later informed by a 
 creative partnership with the Irish Seed Savers Association.\n\nIn 2017\, 
 Doolin embarked on a research residency in Longyearbyen\, an industrial fr
 ontier town situated in Svalbard\, a remote Arctic archipelago located mid
 way between continental Norway and the North Pole. Here\, buried deep bene
 ath a permafrost mountain\, lies a backup of the world’s largest collect
 ion of agricultural biodiversity\, cryogenically preserved within the Sval
 bard Global Seed Vault. The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the Unite
 d Nations estimates that 75% of the genetic diversity in agricultural crop
 s has been lost since the 20th century. As risks from the climate crisis a
 nd global conflict escalate\, seed banks are increasingly considered a pre
 cious resource that could one day prevent a worldwide food crisis.\n\nHeir
 loom presents a series of visual\, installation\, and digital works that c
 elebrate the ‘profundity of seeds’ by exploring the human thread that 
 articulates the connection between our past\, present\, and future. It pla
 ces the humble seed as a profound nexus in the nature-culture relationship
 .\n\nThis exhibition will be accompanied by a number of workshops and acti
