SUMMARY:HORIZON | Lucy Tevlin and Ben Malcolmson at Flax Project Space
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the launch of HORIZON\, a new exhibition fe
aturing audiovisual works by Lucy Tevlin and Ben Malcolmson at FLAX Projec
 t Space\, Belfast.\n\nLaunch Event:\nThursday\, 7th August | 18:00–21:00
\n(Part of Late Night Art Belfast)\nbelfastartmap.com/latenightart\n\nExhi
bition Dates:\n8th–15th August | 12:00–16:00\nLucy & Ben will be on si
te throughout the show’s duration. Ben will be hosting an open studio wi
 thin Flax.\n\nLocation:\nFLAX Project Space\nLevel 3\, 7 North Street\nBel
 fast\, BT1 1NA\n\nLO-TEK is a 16mm film made during Tevlin’s residency w
 ith Harkat Studios\, India (2024). Hand-developed and DIY contact-printed\
, the film engages in the language of experimental filmmaking processes an
 d is material-focused. LO-TEK captures Kalimpong’s Himalayan region\, wh
ere homes cling to slopes. The relationship between technology and the lan
dscape is ever present\, bringing into question historical Western ideas o
f progress and the mythology of technology. Malcolmson’s Untitled Sounds
cape #1 (2025) responds to Tevlin’s film. An open studio presents his st
udio work (2020–25)\, including sketchbooks\, past exhibits\, and future
projects.\n\nLucy Tevlin is a visual artist based in Dublin. Her practice
is defined by a conceptual approach to image-making. She uses image\, tex
 t\, film\, and found materials to interrogate the spatial\, mechanical\, a
nd historical properties of the photographic image. Her work explores conc
erns such as the materiality of the photographic apparatus and the dichoto
mies of truth versus fiction and public versus private.\n\nBen Malcolmson
is a visual artist & curator from Belfast and based in Dublin. His fine ar
t practice explores the parameters of photography\, video and sculpture us
ing alternative photographic processes with relation to one’s land and i
dentity. His curatorial interests encompass social engagement and activism
  through a public-centred approach\, particularly for young people.\n\nIf
you have any access requirements\, please do get in touch and we will acco
mmodate as much as possible. FLAX Project Space is not wheelchair accessib
le. For further details\, visit https://flaxartstudios.org/.
