Imprints, a new exhibition by Cork based artists Liam Lavery and Eithne Ring will be open to the public from 3rd December 2021 in LHQ Gallery, County Library building, Cork county Hall on Carrigrohane Road, Cork city.

Liam Lavery and Eithne Ring have been working on public art projects for the last 25 years. Previous sculptural works include Wave, the 20m long bronze Lusitania memorial at the Old Head of Kinsale and Strongbow and Aoife in Waterford. Their most recent sculpture is Meitheal, a Covid-19 Commemorative bronze sculpture in Charleville, Co Cork.  Much of their sculptural work has involved making foundry models or patterns that are used as part of the process of producing finished sand-cast bronze pieces. These finished works live in public spaces for viewers to observe and interact with, while the original patterns and models end up in storage.

For Imprints, Liam Lavery and Eithne Ring are bringing their foundry art patterns and models together to present them in a new way within a gallery space, while at the same time exploring and developing other artistic concepts that do not get expressed in their public art practice.

The artists are also very conscious of their carbon footprint when making art.  By selecting some foundry patterns in storage and applying a mixture of powdered graphite and wax, they have essentially repurposed a series of work with a very small carbon footprint; the only carbon being used is in the form of graphite and wax.

As part of the exhibition they are also presenting a series of lino cut prints that have been made from repurposed foundry patterns that were used to make the series of bronze panels that tell the story St Brendan the Navigator.

The exhibition will run from Fri Dec 3rd to Thursday 6th January, Gallery open Mon Friday 9.00am-5.30pm Closed weekends and for Christmas 24th Dec- Dec 29th inclusive and on Monday 3rd January
