Multi Award-Winning Local Artist Deirdre Frost is ‘In Habitat, In Transition’
Sample-Studios and Backwater Artist Group have teamed up to present new work by multi-award winning emerging artist, Deirdre Frost in two City Centre venues this September. ‘In Habitat, In Transition’ presents the culmination of her Sample-Studios Graduate Studio Residency in St. Luke’s Crypt and her Backwater Artists Group Ciaran Langford Memorial Bursary Award in Studio 12, Backwater Artists Group, Wandesford Quay, in a unique two-venue exhibition trail.
This exhibition trail sees Deirdre Frost, pushing the boundaries of her artistic practice with a new series of paintings in Studio 12 and experimental sculpture in St. Luke’s Crypt which integrates a musical response to her work, composed by Paul Frost and recorded by Mia Cooper of RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Having graduated from Crawford College of Art in 2020, Deirdre secured two residencies with Sample-Studios and Backwater Artists Group, and has had two sold-out solo exhibitions of her work in The Lavit Gallery and the Joan Clancy Gallery. Commenting on this new work, Deirdre explains that her work is inspired and informed by both the built and natural environment in Cork City: “In a time of rapid change to climate and eco-systems worldwide, I investigate my local ‘habitat’ of Cork City – at the urban cycle of construction and demolition and at the seasonal cycle of growth of flora and fauna within this.”
