Aras An Chontae
Following on from the success of Interconnections 1 – the first ever Irish/Scottish tapestry exhibition held in 2016 in Roscommon – it was decided to run this exhibition as a biannual event.
With the support of Roscommon County Council and Creative Ireland the International Fibre Arts Festival 2018 was launched. The festival will bring textile and fibre artists together to experiment, grow, exchange, create and learn from one another.
Interconnections 2 opens in King House, Boyle, County Roscommon on May the 3rd and runs until May 24th. The exhibition, curated by Frances Crowe and Joan Baxter, showcases the work of four Irish and four Scottish artists.
‘Fate, Destiny and Self Determination’, an international tapestry weaving project, will open in Aras an Chontae, Roscommon town on May 4th and will run until May 24th. This project is curated and managed by Canadian artist Line Dufour. As part of this exhibition the ‘Timelines Tapestry’ will be shown for the very first time. This tapestry is a collaborative piece made in the Dancing Thread Studio, Cork and is being directed by Pascale De Coninck and Joan Baxter.
To coincide with all of this, there is a weekend symposium, which takes place on the 5th and 6th May 2018. This will include artist’s talks, presentations, workshops, gallery tours and plenty of opportunities for networking and informal discussion. The theme of the whole weekend is collaboration and communication with a vision for growth going into the future.
