Hang Tough Contemporary is delighted to announce their first exhibition of 2022. ‘Isolation’ is a new collection of limited edition prints from Irish artist Niall Staines.
The ideas and inspiration for this new body of work was conceived while Staines was isolating during lock down. It portrays the rollercoaster of emotions that came with being isolated from the rest of the world. It unravels the excruciating never ending days that stretched on and on to the mindless, never ending sessions spent doom-scrolling through social media. In this work, Staines has captured the boredom, fear and uncertainty that has plagued us all.
‘Isolation’ will feature a new collection of digital compositions. Each work will be published as a limited edition print, using archival pigments on German cotton rag paper. Prints will be available framed and each is signed, numbered and embossed with the Hang Tough Contemporary seal. All prints will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Niall Staines is an art director and digital artist based in Ireland. His work is graphic, vibrant and visually arresting.
Nature is a consistent theme in his work, often turning serene landscapes into surreal dreamscapes. He uses a mixture of digital collage and photo manipulation to create his unique style. His work has been acquired by collectors in Ireland, Europe and the United States.
‘Isolation’ x Niall Staines will be hosted in Hang Tough Contemporary, No. 4 Exchequer St and no booking is required to visit the gallery
Hang Tough Contemporary is delighted to announce an exclusive Artists Talk between Niall Staines and Michael McDermott at our Exchequer street gallery on Thursday 24th of February
Niall will be discussing his current solo exhibition ‘Isolation’ as well as the inspirations and influences behind his recognisably graphic style. This exhibition is a dynamic collection of digital prints that illustrate Niall’s personal experience of quarantine during the ongoing pandemic, and his unique perspective of the collective experiences of the wider community. His distinctive stretched pixels reflect the elongated months of 2020, where the days and weeks muddled together to create an indistinct interval of time during which people were oversaturated with digital imagery from their phones and social media platforms. Niall will discuss how this influential period of time is reflected within the imagery he has artfully manipulated for his limited print editions.
Michael McDermott is the current editor of Totally Dublin magazine and former co-founder and publisher of online culture guide Le Cool Dublin (2009-2015), Michael formed Neighbrhd to showcase his work and collaborations within the creativity community. His special interests include cultural studies and organising events such as festivals and information guides for the Dublin community.
This talk will be the first of a series of talks we host with our exhibition artists and will take place between 6:30 – 730pm on Thursday 24th of February at Hang Tough Contemporary, No. 4 Exchequer St, Dublin 2.
Tickets are limited so early booking is advised
