Throughout July and August  one of Ireland’s most eminent painters, Neil Shawcross, will be showing a selection of his artworks created over the past decade.

This includes his iconic Penguin book covers, his Dancers, and his more recent paintings of letters, including some from the Andy Warhol archive. Highlights of this series of artworks includes letters to Bernard Loughlin, the first director of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, correspondence from musician Kinky Friedman to David Torrens, as well as letters to Warhol himself.

Neil is well known for his portraits and important commissions, including for the Ulster Museum in Belfast. His work has been exhibited widely, and is held in many significant collections.

He was elected an Associate of the Royal Ulster Academy of Art in 1975, and was made a full Academician in 1977. He won the Academy’s Conor Award in 1975, its Gold Medal in 1978, 1982, 1987, 1994, 1997 and 2001, and its James Adam Prize in 1998. He is also an elected member of the RHA.

Neil was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to arts in Northern Ireland.

The ArtisAnn Gallery is delighted to host this new show by a leading member of the RUA and RHA.
