Land and Language – Talamh and Teanga. Breathe, Art and Gaeilge Exhibition
Derval Dunford www.sui.ie/land-and-land-talamh-agus-teanga-exhibition
A creator and innovator most of her life Derval Dunford’s previous projects include a number of world’s firsts.
This audio-visual art experience may be the first step to hacking your nervous systems, changing your physiology and self-regulating. You are invited to use this fusion of breath, nature, creative language and visual art to explore and connect. Each breath practice takes approx. one minute.
Bringing the essence of these simple practices with you into nature has the potential to change your relationship with the world around you and also the world inside of you.
The only thing required is an open mind, child-like curiosity, and if possible a set of earbuds or headphones to make the experience more intimate.
It is all about connection with nature, and inner nature i.e. body and heart intelligence. The connection creates space for creativity.
A pioneer in Ireland in mindfulness and breathwork Derval was one of the first registered Global Breathwork Leaders, the first qualified BreathMaster in Ireland trained by world renowned teacher and author Dan Brule, the first BBM (Breath- Body-Mind) teacher in Ireland trained by U.S. Psychiatrists and breath researchers Gerbarg & Brown. Derval now assists doctors Gerbarg & Brown on their global teacher training programmes.
Creating space in her own body and mind, being open to exploring, connecting, and embracing the unknown resulted in this, Derval’s first solo exhibition.
The exploration kept her sane and gave her joy during her Brother Steve’s illness, and his death in Sept 2022.
Derval is now part of a creative team with Irish Hospice Foundation, HSE and Creative Ireland on a programme to support staff that deal with bereavement on a daily basis.
Musician and environmental enhancement advocate Sharon Shannon is Derval’s special guest at the opening on Fri July 8th 2022 @6pm. The exhibition runs until July 30th.
Interesting insight: Suí is the Irish word for sit. Sui is pronounced ‘sea’ like the ocean, this is Derval’s business name. Her theory is that training the mind is like training a puppy. When you say sit the puppy wanders off. You bring him back with kindness and compassion, and begin again…and again…and again………
It is the nature of the mind to wander. The healing is in the return
