Mycorrhizal Connections, an exhibition of works by 17 Galway-based artists, curated by Hugh Murphy, will open at KAVA, the Courthouse Gallery in Kinvara from Friday, 17th June at 7 pm. The exhibition will run daily until Sunday, 26th June, from 11am to 5pm. The exhibition is inspired by Mycorrhizal Fungi that form mutualistic symbiotic relationships with plants and trees, who without this network would not survive Not only do we share almost 50% of our DNA with these fungi, our future is entirely dependent on their contribution to a healthy planet. The artists in this exhibition, Helen Roberts Greene, Louise O’Boyle , Heather Watson, Roisin Doherty, Deirdre Crowley, Anne Greene, Caoilfhionn Ní Cheallaigh, Maria Donegan, Tonita O’Dwyer, Katie Burke, Toireasa Ward, Emer McDermott, Megan Lucy, Beatrice Stapleton, Aine Doherty, Hugh Murphy, Herminia Ayala Reyes, Laura Angell reflect on the connections these phenomenal fungi create as they draw together all the elements in the natural world. They also explore how we, through our own personal connections, depend on and support those around us. Just as earth relies on mycorrhizae for its survival, we too thrive through our relationships.
