Cork County Council Library and Arts Services is delighted to announce that its first exhibition opening of 2022 will be by West Cork based visual artists Gordon Moxley. The exhibition will open at 5pm on 11th February. Gordon has painted and drawn from an early age and has had his work featured in several exhibitions. Gordon has several main subject areas: he paints houses; people or their faces; strong shapes; patterns; and more abstract work, this often with perhaps unconscious reference to his own landscape. His work displays an instinctive use of mostly very bright colour and a frequently startling sense of composition and shape. Gordon lives with autism and attends CoAction West Cork. In 2012, Gordon began weekly sessions at CoAction with an artist and teacher called Tom. Tom helps Gordon by encouraging him; taking his work seriously; bringing artbooks to their sessions and often works alongside him as a fellow artist. Since 2013, tom has supported Gordon by arranging seven exhibitions in County Cork. He also helps to develop some aspects of Gordon’s work, encouraging him to mix colours more and to try different media, such as batik, which Gordon has a natural talent for. The exhibition will be open from 11th February – 4th March 2022, from 9am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Map
